action

After the tragic accidental death of his wife Pam, Danny Tanner lives in a house in San Francisco as the single father of his three daughters DJ , Stephanie and Michelle . Since he is visibly overwhelmed with the turbulent everyday life of the family and his work as a television journalist, he asks his brother-in-law Jesse (unsuccessful musician) and his best friend Joey (comedian) to move in with him and help him raise the children. Over time, the three men and the children grow together to form a close family bond.

characters

Jesse Katsopolis

John Stamos played Jesse Katsopolis

Jesse Katsopolis (in season 1 his last name was Cochran , which was changed at the request of John Stamos at the beginning of the second season) is Danny's brother-in-law, Pam's younger brother and uncle of her three daughters DJ, Stephanie and Michelle. Jesse later marries Rebecca "Becky" Donaldson and becomes the father of twins Nicky and Alex. His maiden name is Hermes Katsopolis, but since he was bullied about it as a child, he asked his parents to change his first name to Jesse. As an adult, he has come to appreciate his real name, but still wants to be called Jesse. Jesse is obsessed with his hair, which he even speaks to every now and then and which he takes very meticulous care with all possible means. When Stephanie accidentally cuts his initially long hair while playing, Jesse is completely stunned. Unlike Danny, Jesse is often prone to reckless decisions and irresponsible behavior, especially when it comes to getting on well with his nieces. So he lets the girls get away with things that their father would not approve of. It takes time for Jesse to show his adult side. Jesse's trademark is the phrase “Have mercy on me”, which he often uses in situations that make him upset. Aside from his obsession with his hair, Jesse is a huge Elvis Presley fan . He is himself a musician and singer in the band Jesse and the Rippers , which despite various small gigs does not celebrate much success. Jesse has to work as an exterminator for his father's company on the side. Jesse is also aiming for a career in the advertising industry and composes jingles together with Joey , which he sells to various companies. In the sixth season it is revealed that Jesse has no school leaving certificate and is hiding this from his family. However, when the embarrassing truth emerges, he catches up with his degree. He later hosts the popular radio show Die Rush Hour Rebellen (in the original: Rush Hour Renegades ) with Joey on the local radio station KFLH . In season seven, Jesse becomes the owner of a nightclub, The Smash Club , and later forms a new band, the Hot Daddy and the Monkey Puppets .

Daniel "Danny" Ernest Tanner

Bob Saget played Danny Tanner

Danny Tanner is the father of DJ, Stephanie and Michelle. His beloved wife Pam was killed in a traffic accident caused by a drunk driver. Since then, Danny has been all the more concerned about the well-being of his daughters, whom he tries to raise with the help of Jesse and Joey's advice (later also other, sometimes formative, characters). Danny is presented on the series as the over-ambitious father of the nineties. He openly addresses the problems of the girls or those of his two friends described in the episodes and helps them to cope with them. When it comes to parenting, Danny tends to take an old-fashioned view and usually has to be convinced by Jesse, Joey or other people of a more modern view that is more in line with the interests of his daughters. Danny has a keen interest in keeping the house and associated furniture and items clean. His daughters (with the initial exception of Michelle) and his two friends responded with little enthusiasm to his passion for doing the annual spring cleaning extremely thoroughly. Danny's characteristic trait is a tendency to wander in his conversations and generally to talk excessively, which is sometimes found annoying by his fellow human beings. Danny works as a sports reporter for the local news channel Kanal 8 at the beginning of the series . In the second season he will co-host Rebecca Donaldson, later wife of Jesse, in the morning show Awake on, San Francisco (in the original: Wake Up, San Francisco ). In the course of the series, Danny tries to find a woman to live together again, but this is often made difficult for him because of his views. In season five, he meets his temporary co-host Vicky Larson, who is replacing pregnant Becky at the time, and falls in love with her. In the sixth season they get engaged, but when Vicky gets an offer for a job in New York and wants to accept it, the two split up to save each other a complicated long-distance relationship. In season eight, Danny meets single mother Claire Mahan and the two become a couple.

Joseph "Joey" Alvin Gladstone

Dave Coulier played Joey Gladstone

Joey Gladstone has been friends with Danny Tanner since childhood and moves in with him shortly after his wife Pam dies to help him raise his daughters DJ, Stephanie and Michelle. In doing so, he usually approaches the problems of the children in a very level-headed and extremely understanding manner, but is often exploited by them because of his good-natured behavior. Joey works as a stand-up comedian . His repertoire usually includes the voice imitation of comic characters like Popeye , Bullwinkle J. Moose or Pepe Lepew. Joey does not initially have a room of his own in Danny's house and sleeps in the alcove of Danny's living room. To give him more privacy, Danny converts his underground car park into a bedroom for Joey. Since he doesn't have a conventional job, Joey mainly takes care of the day-to-day care of the children: He prepares their breakfast, helps them with their homework, drives them to school and to various activities after school. In addition, it is mostly Joey who takes care of Michelle when she is still a baby. But he never complains about it. According to his own statements, these tasks make him feel needed and part of a large family, which he has always missed as an only child. Joey's father served in the US Army and had a strict upbringing that Joey suffered from as a child. That's why he doesn't have good contact with him as an adult. At the instigation of DJ and Stephanie, however, both manage to resolve their conflict. In order to advance his career as a comedian, Joey appears regularly in the "Lachmaschine", a comedy club in San Francisco. From the second season he successfully distributes advertising jingles together with Jesse. In addition, Joey is temporarily the presenter (as "Ranger Joe") of a program for children and plays in a television soap. He later hosts the popular radio show Die Rush Hour Rebellen with Jesse on the local radio station KFLH . Over the course of the series, Joey has a few relationships, but they never last long.

Rebecca "Becky" Donaldson-Katsopolis

Lori Loughlin played Becky Donaldson-Katsopolis

Rebecca Donaldson-Katsopolis is Danny's co-host on Wake Up, San Francisco and the future wife of Jesse Katsopolis. She grew up on a farm in Valentine, Nebraska . Becky befriends Danny and develops into a kind of mother figure for his daughters in the course of the series; Above all, it is DJ who regularly turns to Becky with various teenage problems. Becky falls in love with Jesse, but initially refuses to admit her feelings for him. After some back and forth, they still become a couple. During a family trip to Lake Tahoe at the end of season two, they get engaged and want to get married straight away. At the wedding ceremony, however, Becky realizes that she and Jesse are not really ready for it. They finally get married on Valentine's Day in season four. After the wedding, Jesse first moves in with Becky in her apartment. But when she realizes how much he misses the Tanners, she agrees to move into the Tanners' house with him as well. To create the appropriate space for this, Joey and Jesse convert the attic of the house into a spacious apartment. On Michelle's fifth birthday (fifth season), Becky gives birth to twins Nicky (Nicholas) and Alex (Alexander). They are named after a teacher who once inspired Becky to become a journalist (Alexander) and Jesse's father Nick (short for Nicholas). Becky is promoted to producer of Wake Up, San Francisco in the eighth season , whereupon Danny feels left out and almost quits his job as host of the show. During the course of the series, Becky tried several times to persuade Jesse to travel to Nebraska on holidays (such as Christmas) to visit her parents, which Jesse displeased. In return, he keeps suggesting that she go to Graceland instead .

Donna Jo "DJ" Margaret Tanner

Candace Cameron played DJ Tanner

DJ Tanner is the oldest daughter of Danny and Pam Tanner and the older sister of Stephanie and Michelle. At the beginning of the series, she is ten years old. DJ is typically the daughter who acts as a role model for her younger sisters. Although she argues with them sometimes, she is very worried about them. DJ is - with a few exceptions - a high school student, which Danny is very proud of. In the first few seasons she often clashes with her father, Jesse or Joey because she does not always keep the limits that have been placed on her. In the end, however, she always learns her lesson and apologizes for her wrongdoing. When Jesse and Joey move in with the Tanners in the pilot episode of the series, DJ is forced to share their bedroom with Stephanie for reasons of space. Due to mounting privacy issues, DJ finally manages to convince her father in season five that she needs a room of her own. Then Michelle clears her room for a DJ and moves in with Steph. DJ's best friend throughout the series is her neighbor and school friend Kimmy Gibbler, who is completely the opposite of her in every way. In the course of the series, DJ shows various interests, for example in music, horse riding or karate. In season four, she is appointed editor-in-chief of the school newspaper at her high school. As he grows up, DJ becomes increasingly concerned with more serious issues like puberty and the boys. Her first serious relationship begins in the sixth season with Steve Hale, who becomes a real fixture in her life. In season seven, the couple split up but decided to stay friends. During the last season, DJ has on / off relationships with guitarist Viper (who plays in Jesse's new band) and the wealthy Nelson. In the series finale, Steve accompanies DJ to their prom, where they kiss again. DJ is accepted into the University of California and it is suggested that she will study there after graduating from high school. She originally planned to go to Stanford University , but apparently did not pass the associated admissions process and was rejected.

Stephanie "Steph" Judith Tanner

Jodie Sweetin played Stephanie Tanner

Stephanie Tanner is the middle child of Danny and Pam Tanner, the younger sister of DJ and the older sister of Michelle. Her mother died when she was five years old. In the early seasons of the series, her saying “How rude!” Is her trademark, which she often uses as an expression of deep indignation. Steph has a habit of spying on her big sister's DJ. To this end, she secretly reads their diary and overhears their phone calls, and is almost always caught. Steph is the sportiest and most curious of the Tanner girls. Her best friends in high school include Gia Mahan and Mickey, whom she met in season seven. She later founds a girl band with Gia, another friend, and Kimmy Gibbler. Steph develops into something of a tomboy over the years . Of the three sisters, she is the only one to come into contact with the toughest youth issues, such as peer pressure smoking and making out at parties, as well as exposing a classmate's child abuse. In her early years, Mr. Bear (a soft toy in a detective's outfit) is her favorite toy, which is of great emotional value to her as it was a gift to her from her late mother. Steph can't stand DJ's best friend Kimmy Gibbler and often argues with her.

Michelle Elizabeth Tanner

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen played Michelle Tanner

Michelle Tanner is Danny's and Pam's youngest daughter, DJ and Stephanie's younger sister, and the family's often pampered baby boy. Michelle was just a baby when her mother died, which means that she is the only one in the family who cannot remember her. At the beginning of the series, Jesse and Joey's inexperience with handling babies creates a lot of insane situations that serve the humorous aspects of the series. Michelle distinguishes herself through her - at first - very childlike nature, but is nevertheless often reprimanded by her father with punishment. As Michelle gets older, she becomes more and more the focus of the show and becomes more involved in the plot. Her best friends are the neighbor boy Teddy and her classmate Denise. Michelle's other friends are Derek Boyd, Lisa Leeper and Aaron Bailey, whom she has known since kindergarten and who is mean to her every now and then. Michelle's favorite toys (in previous seasons) are Barney, a plush bear that hangs on the wall above her bed, and her pink plush pig. Even as a baby, Michelle has a particularly strong bond with her uncle Jesse, who accordingly treats her preferentially over her sisters. Michelle is known for her many cheeky sayings, including "Oh, please!", "What a cheese!", "You got it!" And "You're in a lot of trouble, Mister!".

Kimberly "Kimmy" Louise Gibbler

Kimmy Gibbler is the annoying neighbor child of the Tanners and DJs' best friend, who visits them regularly in their house. Most of the Tanner family can't stand Kimmy; Danny, Jesse and Steph in particular are constantly annoyed by her. Kimmy is a very bad student and always copies her homework from the DJ. Her most prominent characteristics include her now and then escalating shopping addiction and the blunt expression of things that can be embarrassing or even hurtful for those around her. Despite their few similarities, and the resulting disputes, the friendship between Kimmy and DJ remains unbroken throughout the series. Stephanie often jokes about Kimmy's lack of intelligence and her other unusual quirks. Danny advises DJ regularly in Kimmy's presence to look for other, "reasonable" friends. Later, in a conversation with Jesse, Kimmy tells how much she's suffering from the hurtful remarks by him and the other Tanners (except DJ). The Tanners then try to be more considerate of Kimmy's feelings. Kimmy's only serious relationship is with Duane (eighth season), a very hollow-headed boy who is known for his saying “because of me”, but otherwise hardly speaks a word. Ironically, it turns out that he has a penchant for Shakespeare works and can even quote from some of them very passionately. Kimmy is turned down by all the colleges she has applied to and fears the imminent separation from her best friend DJ, who will go to college without her. In frustration, she decides to run off to Reno with Duane. The Tanners manage to talk her out of the wedding just in time. In the series finale, Kimmy arranges a blind date for DJ's high school prom, which turns out to be her ex-boyfriend Steve, to DJ's delighted surprise.

Episode list

background

Originally, the role of the father of the family was taken over by John Posey, as the two preferred actors of the screenwriter were otherwise obliged. After an episode had already been filmed with him, he was replaced by the previously favored Bob Saget . With this, the shooting began in March 1987.

The US television station ABC began broadcasting the series on September 22, 1987.

At the beginning of the first season, Michelle Tanner, played by the Olsen twins , was nine months old, Stephanie was five years and DJ was ten years. Twins Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit , who played Nicky and Alex Katsopolis, were one year and nine months old when they first appeared on the series. Over the next few years, the three Tanner children and the Katsopolis twins could be seen growing up in the series. In contrast to the Olsen twins, the Tuomy Wilhoit twins did not appear in any other television or cinema productions after the end of Full House. Both made a guest appearance on the first episode of Fuller House (TV series)

The series was discontinued on May 23, 1995. In 1997, all actors met again for a full house reunion in a US show. All actors were also present at the weddings of Candace Cameron Bure (1996) and Jodie Sweetin (2002) and are still friends to this day.

In Germany, Full House was broadcast by RTL from 1992 ; from August to December 2008 the first four seasons were broadcast on RTL II . After seven years of abstinence from free and pay TV, the series returned to sixx's early program in early 2015 .
