Hermann Friedrich Wilhelm Adolf von Brauchitsch (born May 23, 1840 in Berlin , † June 5, 1916 in Leubus ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

He was the son of the Secret Higher Justice Council and Vice President of the Higher Appeal Court , Adolf von Brauchitsch and his wife Emilie, née von Braunschweig (1809–1866). The later general of the cavalry Bernhard von Brauchitsch was his older brother.

Military career

Brauchitsch attended high schools in Erfurt and Stettin . He then completed the beginning of May 1854 cadet Culm and a year later the cadet Berlin. As a second lieutenant , he was transferred to the 9th Infantry Regiment (Colberg) of the Prussian Army in Stettin on May 17, 1859 . As such, he was commanded from May 25 to September 3, 1866 to the 1st Battalion of the Landwehr Regiment No. 9 in Stargard and took part in the war against Austria in the same year . After the peace agreement , Brauchitsch was transferred to the newly formed Infantry Regiment No. 76 in Hanover on October 30, 1866 , and was promoted to Prime Lieutenant . Here he served in 3rd Company. In 1867 the association moved into its new garrison in Hamburg (staff, 1st and 2nd battalion) and Lübeck (fusilier battalion). It was given the national designation “Hanseatic” and from that point on it was called “2. Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 76 ”. From April 25, 1869 to August 25, 1870, Brauchitsch was adjutant in the 1st Battalion of Landwehr Regiment No. 76 (Landwehr District Hamburg).

On September 1, 1870, Brauchitsch was appointed deputy regimental adjutant and took part in the war against France in 1870/71 with his regiment, which was subordinate to the VIII Army Corps . It was used in the sieges of Metz , Toul and Paris and in the battles of Dreux , La Madeleine , Bouvet and Bellême . On December 2, 1870 he was seriously injured by a shot in the neck at the Battle of Loigny and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class.

From March 6, 1871 he was with the 3rd Company and on May 20, 1871 was promoted to captain to chief of the 1st company. From July 1, 1879 to September 15, 1881, Brauchitsch worked as a company commander at the non-commissioned officers' school in Potsdam under position à la suite of his regiment and was then transferred as a surplus major to the Lower Rhine Fusilier Regiment 39 in Düsseldorf . In position à la suite of this regiment, he was appointed commander of the Marienwerder NCO School on June 3, 1882 . On September 18, 1886, Brauchitsch returned to military service and was commander of the 1st Battalion in the 4th Guard Grenadier Regiment "Queen" in Koblenz until September 5, 1887 . Subsequently transferred to Goslar as commander of the Hanoverian Jäger Battalion No. 10 , Brauchitsch was promoted to lieutenant colonel on August 10, 1888 . As such, he was commissioned under position à la suite on November 4, 1890 with the leadership of the infantry regiment "Prince Friedrich of the Netherlands" (2nd Westphalian) No. 15 in Minden . With the promotion to colonel on November 18, 1890, Brauchitsch was appointed commander of this regiment. He gave up the command on May 4, 1894 with the position à la suite of this regiment, was entrusted with the command of the 17th Infantry Brigade in Glogau and finally appointed commander of the brigade on May 14, 1894 with a simultaneous promotion to major general .

On June 17, 1897 Brauchitsch was awarded the character as a lieutenant general with board for disposition made. On the occasion of the anniversary of the infantry regiment “Prince Friedrich of the Netherlands” (2nd Westphalian) No. 15, Wilhelm II awarded him the star of the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, on June 30, 1913 . Brauchitsch was also the holder of the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves, the Cross of Honor II. Class of the Schaumburg-Lippe House Order , the Saint Stanislaus Order I Class and a Grand Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau .

He retired near Glogau.
