INK , real name Ingrid Sonntag-Ramirez Ponce , (born February 20, 1966 in Alsfeld , Hessen ) is a nationally and internationally distinguished German draftsman , painter and project artist ; she is also a juror for various art and culture awards .

Life, career

Ingrid Sonntag (married Sonntag-Ramirez Ponce) was born in Alsfeld, Hesse, in 1966. She grew up in Butzbach . Her talent for drawing was shown early in her childhood. Her siblings had changed the short form of their name "Ing" to "INK" because of their passion for painting with ink. In Butzbach she attended the city school, then the Weidigschule ( grammar school ), which she graduated from high school in 1985 ; A top in the art exam was a matter of course. However, for economic reasons, artistic training and a career were not considered. A banking apprenticeship followed at INK. She was successfully employed in this profession until 2001 and made a career.

INK initially only lived out her artistic talent in her private life, in her free time, and later alongside family and work. From 1991 to 1993 she also worked as a lecturer for “traditional engraving technology ” at the adult education center in Friedberg. “On weekends and on vacation” she did intensive self-study with frequent museum visits . Here she has internalized her role models , which include the old masters such as Michelangelo , Rembrandt and Vermeer, as well as Albrecht Dürer or the example of Juan Sánchez Cotán with his still lifes , but also Gustave Courbet , Lovis Corinth , Käthe Kollwitz , Franz Gertsch and the American Chuck Close . It was not until 2006 that she made the artistic works that had been created and collected up to that point available to the public. The positive response that this triggered prompted INK to devote itself entirely to art. Since then she has been working as a freelance artist , under the short name INK. She lives and works, since 1993, in Jossgrund in the Hessian Spessart and in Andalusia in Spain . She has received numerous international and national art and culture awards for her work. She received her first international award just two years after starting her career.

Work technique, work

INK's works are primarily pencil drawings . They are manufactured using extremely complex technology, so that: "a square centimeter of them" costs "an hour" or "150 hours ... for a portrait ". There are “the techniques of the old masters, such as B. Dürer and the Dutch School "

“INK uses a variety of pencils with various hardnesses and uses a special sharpener through which it can create certain angles. She reworks the tip of the pen with special sandpaper. She uses thick special paper with a smooth surface for drawing . With small movements she paints tiny circles that later appear like a homogeneous surface. She applies up to ten layers on top of each other in order to haptically represent a male skin. Sometimes she works for several hours without putting her pencil down. Erasing or other correction is not possible ”. At the beginning of each picture there is a sketch that has been drawn with light hand. The original image is then worked hard and firmly into the paper. The light parts in the picture above are worked out first, while the darker parts follow later. The portraits are one of her specialties. They are characterized by "hyper-realistic" attention to detail. The people portrayed appear extremely lively and "... designed with incredible realism ... down to the last detail". The artist “shines into their souls or draws their souls” and “ brings out the aura of the person”.

In addition to the pencil, other techniques, such as acrylic and oil painting, or their combinations, are used in her works. In addition to portraits, she also devotes herself to flora and fauna , which, in their naturalness, remind one of Maria Sibylla Merian .

INK has a strong political and social side, which she aggressively connects with her art, and which z. B. lead to cartoons , z. B. by Nicolas Sarkozy , naked, as the act "Carlo Bruni", in the attitude of a well-known act by Carla Bruni , his wife or Angela Merkel , as " Angela d'Arc ", waving a flag ...). They are “portraits with a roguish neck ” or “with a dose of malice”. For her, art is, as she repeatedly emphasizes in lectures and artist talks (here on the occasion of the Wächtersbacher Kunstsalon, "... a different form of language and must never be just decorative").

Again and again she participates in social projects. The collaboration in a social project by the Cologne-based “Tatort Actors”, which campaigns for sexually abused children and prison children in the Philippines , is well known. With such art projects, she connects people across the globe.

In 2010, in the project “INK meets Ludwig Emil Grimm , she dealt with the hitherto little known painter brother of the linguists and fairy tale collectors of Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm . Since 2011 INK has been dealing with Spanish culture in the project “Duende de España” (the mystical magic of Spain).

Inspired by the three-movement “Dutch masters Suite” by the Dutch composer Johan de Meij , who lives and works in New York and who deals with Dutch masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer and Jan Steen , she created the art project of the same name. It opened the Main-Kinzig-Fulda Cultural Summer in 2014. The composer traveled from the USA and personally conducted a 70-piece symphonic wind orchestra belonging to the project . It is a fascinating dialogue between two genres: drawing or film from a series of drawings and music.

On the occasion of the Luther year 2017, she started the project: "Bethlehem / Another day in paradise" , which deals with a "new translation" of the Bible into the visual arts. One thematic focus is the role of women in the Bible. The cycle of works includes a series of " Eva " pictures, which show the protagonist under many different aspects, from "Eva - origin of the world" (allusion to Gustave Courbet's work of the same title), to "Eva - the knowledge" , to " Eva - the strong " and " Eva - poisonous " . In this project (“Bethlehem / Another day in paradise”) as well as in “Duende de España”, INK succeeds time and again in achieving special effects through collaboration with the dance company Artodance, under the direction of Monica Opsahl. Monica Opsahl, from Norway, she is the MKK's culture award winner, answers INK's series of works with the performance “La vida” and “apple story”. The two artists have already performed together in various places. Here two genres of art, drawing, painting and expressive dance, are related to one another.

Another project deals with the consequences of the Second World War . Among other things, INK illustrated two books by the author Brunhilde Miehe, which deal with a childhood during the war. Inspired by Wolfgang Borchert's “The Kitchen Clock” , illustrations were also created. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the first exhibition Degenerate Art ” of the National Socialists , INK created her first three-dimensional, collaged drawing “EntARTet” .

“Between the Times” , an artist dialogue between critical poetry penned by Arnd Dünnebacke and works by INK, started as a project in 2018.

INK is a member of various art and cultural associations, u. a. the Bad Orb- based Opera Academy , the Hanauer Kulturverein, the Archive Frauenleben (MKK) and on the board of the Frankfurter Künstlergesellschaft, founded in 1857, one of the world's oldest artist associations
