Emergence
The cantata was composed in 1713 on the occasion of Christian von Sachsen-Weißenfels' 31st birthday as festive table music, which was played in the Jägerhof in Weißenfels in the evening after an extensive hunting event by the Prince of Neuchâtel Castle .
Subject
The libretto is by Salomon Franck . The poet refers to classical mythology in the text: Diana , the goddess of the hunt ( soprano ), Endymion ( tenor ) as well as Pan ( bass ) and Pales (soprano) praise Prince Christian.
occupation
- 2 sopranos, tenor, bass in the person assigned above
- Orchestra with hunting horn I / II, oboe I / II, tenor oboe (waist), bassoon , recorder I / II, violin I / II, viola , basso continuo
The extent to which the choir can be cast multiple times is not clear from the autograph score. The original voice material is no longer available.
particularities
It is the oldest known secular cantata by Bach. In addition, it is Bach's first known work for a larger orchestra and is the first evidence of the composer's collaboration with the poet Salomon Franck. It consists of a sequence of 15 rather short recitatives , arias and choirs that are relatively freely designed, i.e. H. in many cases do not correspond to the form scheme customary at the time. The hunting character of the music is emphasized by the use of two horns . The pastoral aria of the Pales Sheep can safely graze , accompanied by two recorders , is the most famous movement far beyond the cantata itself.
