history

Origin and predecessor

Silbermond as Jast 2001

The members of Silvermoon met in 1998 in the musical youth project Ten Sing the YMCA know. Together with two other members (Juliane Katzer, vocals, and Maximilian Maneck, keyboards) they formed a cover band called Exakt. Two years later the decision was made to found the band JAST - the term is made up of the first letters of the first names of the four. In the early days, the group's repertoire consisted primarily of cover songs and a few original compositions with English texts. With these titles they took part in three competitions. At the BEAT 2000 they took 1st place. At the soundcheck in June 2001 they were named the second best school band in Saxony. In August of the same year they won the Music Act award .

Dissatisfaction with their English texts led the group to their mother tongue. In autumn 2001 the first German-language songs were written, which were supplemented by further compositions in the following months. These were played, still under the name JAST, in May 2002 on the Hutberg in Kamenz as the opening act for the Puhdys , in front of the young band's largest audience until then.

As a silver moon

In June 2002 the musicians performed for the first time with the band name Silbermond when they went on tour with Radio PSR throughout Saxony for two weeks . When looking for a new name, the name was the first suggestion that everyone immediately liked.

This was followed by an appearance on July 5, 2002 at the 10th anniversary of Radio PSR's birthday party in the Leipzig arena in front of more than 10,000 people. In 2003 they came second at the Lucky Star Newcomer Award .
