Geographical location

Enzersdorf an der Fischa is located in the industrial district in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the market town covers 31.42 square kilometers. 15.42 percent of the area is forested.

history

In ancient times the area was part of the province of Pannonia .

The origin of the name is unclear. The legendary Count Enci is still told today. In analogy to the market communities Groß-Enzersdorf and Maria Enzersdorf, it is likely that it goes back to the proper name "Engelschalk". Enzersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1050, Margarethen am Moos in 1045. In 1877 the volunteer fire brigade was founded in Margarethen, and in 1880 in Enzersdorf. Demolition work on the castle began in 1882. In 1927, an earthquake caused great damage in the municipality. The Volksheim was built in 1969. In 1970 it was merged with the municipality of Margarethen / Moos. In 1985 market rights were reassigned.

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 2663 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 2,447 inhabitants, in 1981 there were 1995 and in 1971 1922 inhabitants.
