Kępno (German Kempen , Kashubian Kãpnò ) is a very small village in the northwest of the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Słupsk ( municipality of Stolp ) in the powiat Słupski (district of Stolp ).

Geographical location

Kępno is located 13 kilometers north of Słupsk , and can be reached via Wrzeście ( Freist ) from Voivodeship Road 213 . Until 1945 there was a railway connection via the Karżcino ( Karzin ) station to the Stolp – Zezenow line of the Stolper Bahnen . Today the nearest train station is in Słupsk on the railway lines from Gdańsk to Stargard and from Piła to Ustka .

history

The former Kempen has always been a suburb of Freist (today Polish: Wrzeście) and this village is connected to its history. Until 1843 Kempen was owned by the von Gutzmerow family for over 400 years . The last owner before 1945 was Wilhelm Anhalt , who also found his final resting place in the town's cemetery. Wilhelm Anhalt was master of Kempen from 1918. He enlarged the manor house in 1923 and had day laborer's houses built in Kempen (as in Freist) - solid stone houses with stables and small gardens.

Kempen was next to the watermill a village in the municipality of Freist, which until 1945 belonged to the district of Stolp in the administrative district of Köslin in the Prussian province of Pomerania . After 1945 the place became Polish and is now part of the Gmina Słupsk in the powiat Słupski in the Pomeranian Voivodeship (1975-1998 Stolp Voivodeship ). Kępno is incorporated into the Wrzeście Schulzenamt .

church

Before 1945 the population of Kempen was almost entirely of Protestant denomination. Kirchdorf was Freist, which belonged to the church district of Stolp-Altstadt in the eastern district of the church province of Pomerania of the Church of the Old Prussian Union .

Since 1945 most of the residents of Kępno have been Catholic . The parish is still Wrzeście. The parish is part of the Główczyce ( Glowitz ) deanery in the Pelplin diocese of the Catholic Church in Poland . Protestant church members living here are incorporated into the Kreuzkirche parish in Słupsk ( Stolp ) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

school

There was no school in Kempen before 1945. The children attended elementary school in Freist.
