K. Callan

K. Callan , often only K Callan written (*, 9. January 1936 in Dallas , Texas as Katherine Elizabeth Borman ) is an American actress and author . She is best known for her role as Martha Kent, the mother of Clark Kent, in the action series Superman - The Adventures of Lois & Clark .

Life

Callan studied acting at the Herbert Berghof Studio in Greenwich Village , New York City . She made her theatrical debut in 1955 as the Hawker in Inherit the Wind at the Margo Jones Theater in Dallas. She made her New York stage debut in 1969 as Hooker in The Broofer at the Herbert Berghof Playwrights Theater. Her other theater works include appearances as Harriet in Sticks and Bones at the John Golden Theater, New York City (1972), in Blessing at the Manhattan Theater Club, New York City (1975), as Vic in Red Rover, Red Rover at Melrose, Los Angeles and as Grady in April Snow at the South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, California (1983).

She first appeared on television in 1962 in an episode of the Route 66 series . In 1977 she played a key role as the lesbian Veronica on the Emmy Award winning episode Cousin Liz of the sitcom All in the Family . Numerous other appearances in television series followed, for example in One Day at a Time (1976–1977), Married: The First Year (1979), Blind Ambition (1979), Joe's World (1979–1980), The Texas Clinic ( 1983) and Mit Herz und Scherz (1989–1991). In 1990 she appeared as Amy Stevens, the mother of April Stevens Ewing, in several episodes of the penultimate season of Dallas . From 1993 to 1997 she took on the role of Clark Kent's mother Martha Kent in the action series Superman - The Adventures of Lois & Clark . She appeared in Carnivàle from 2003 to 2005 as Eleanor McGill. In Meet the Browns she played the daisy from 2009 to 2010. She was also featured in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother from 2007 to 2012 , in which she played Lily Aldrin's maternal grandmother.

She made her film debut in 1970 as Mary Lou Curran in John G. Avildsen's drama Joe - Revenge for America . Other films she starred in include Man Are You Awesome! (1973), A Man for Certain Hours (1980), Seasons of a Marriage (1980), Unborn - Child of Satan (1991), A Fare to Remember (1999), Nine Lives (2005), Midnight Clear (2006), Coyote County Loser (2009) and Samuel Bleak (2013).

As a writer, she wrote the books Script Is Finished, Now What Do I Do? (1993), Directing your directing career (1994), How to Sell Yourself as an Actor (2008), The Los Angeles Agent Book (2016) and The New York Agent Book (2016).

From 1957 to 1968 she was married to James Ruskin Callan, with whom she has three children.
