Karin Burneleit

Karin Burneleit , married Krebs (born August 18, 1943 in Gumbinnen ) is a German athlete ( GDR ).

Life

Karin Burneleit started for SC Dynamo Berlin , and her favorite disciplines were the 800 and 1500 meter runs . She had her first major success at the GDR indoor championships in 1966, where she won over 800 meters, and also in 1968. She also won the 1500 meters indoors in 1971.

In 1968 she took part in the Olympic Games in Mexico City in the 800-meter run, but was eliminated in the semifinals.

Her greatest success was the victory at the European Championships in Helsinki in 1971 in the 1,500 meter run in the world record time of 4: 09.6 minutes. She was the first to run under 4:10 minutes. The world record was broken on July 18, 1972 in Moscow by Lyudmila Bragina with a time of 4: 06.9 minutes. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , she was fourth in the 1,500 meter run (4: 04.11 min).

In 1974 she ran another world record: 2: 35.0 min over 1000 meters .

In 1972 she married the long-distance runner Joachim Krebs. Her daughter Nadja was also a middle and long distance runner. After finishing her sports career, Karin Burneleit worked for the GDR Athletics Association DVfL . She lives in Hasselfelde ( Harz ). Since 1995 she has been working independently in the field of sports and event management.

Karin Burneleit started for SC Dynamo Berlin . During her competition time she was 1.67 m tall and weighed 52 kg. In 1971 she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in the GDR .
