Kartal ( Turkish for “eagle”, corrupted from Greek Kartalimen ) is the capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of İstanbul and a district on the Asian side of İstanbul . Kartal has 450,498 inhabitants (as of 2014).
Sports
The most famous sports club in the district is the Kartalspor football club . He played with one interruption for 19 years in the TFF 1st Lig , the second highest Turkish league, and has been back in the TFF 2nd Lig , the third highest Turkish league, since summer 2013 .
Although the club never played in Turkey's top division, the Süper Lig , it has made a name for itself as a talent factory within Turkish football . The Turkish national players and important players within Turkish football such as Servet Çetin , Volkan Demirel , Egemen Korkmaz , Olcan Adın , Özden Öngün , Oğuz Dağlaroğlu , Semih Kaya , Kürşat Duymuş and Emrah Eren either made their sporting breakthrough in the club's youth department experienced here or played temporarily for this club.
In 2011/12, the second team, Kartalspor A2 , which consisted almost exclusively of young players who were about to join the professional team, won the championship of the reserve team league TFF A2 Ligi .

Road traffic
The D100 expressway runs through Kartal and continues from the Bulgarian border to Iran. In addition, the city can be reached via the Bağdat Caddesi , which connects Kartal with the more central Kadıköy district. A coastal road connects Kartal in the west with Bostancı and in the east with Tuzla .
Rail transport
Kartal has its own train station on the Istanbul S-Bahn line that runs between Haydarpaşa and Gebze . The city can also be reached via the Adapazarı Ekspresi , which runs between Haydarpaşa and Adapazarı .
Since the completion of the Marmaray tunnel in October 2013, the M4 (Istanbul Metro) has been running through Kartal.
Ship and air traffic
The Sabiha Gökçen International Airport is located in the neighboring district of Gebze and can be reached in five minutes.
A ferry to the Istanbul Princes' Islands is operated across the seasons. There is also a passenger ferry to the port city of Yalova, east of Istanbul . This city is on the opposite side of the Marmara Sea .
