Career

Junior days and career start in North America

Ken Magowan began his career with the Vernon Vipers, for which he was active from 1998 to 2000 in the British Columbia Hockey League . The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) is one of 10 Canadian junior ice hockey leagues that belong to the second-rate Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). In his first year for the Vipers, he and his team won both the BCHL championship and the Royal Bank Cup , the championship trophy of the CJHL.

Then he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the seventh round as a total of 198th player by the New Jersey Devils , for which the winger was never on the ice.

He first played for four years for the hockey team at Boston University, which was organized in the American University League NCAA . Towards the end of the 2003-04 season , Magowan made his professional ice hockey debut when he played five times for the New Jersey's farm team , the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). In the council's training camp for the 2004/05 season there were many talented players such as Zach Parise , Cam Janssen or Ahren Nittel , so Magowan only played for Albany when Janssen and Brett Clouthier were suspended. Although he was able to achieve 4 points (2 goals) in his 4 missions, he received no more missions for the councils after the banned returned. The left-handed shooter played for the Augusta Lynx in the third-class ECHL for most of the season, for which he scored 49 points, including 21 goals, and was therefore elected to the ECHL All Star Team of the season.

For the 2005/06 season he moved within the ECHL to the Toledo Storm team , for which he scored 9 goals and 8 assists in the first 10 games of the season and then received a trial engagement with the AHL teams Philadelphia Phantoms and later in the season with the Rochester Americans . He also started the 2006/07 season at Toledo and was able to qualify for the ECHL All-Star Game again with his performance , whereupon he continued the season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers with 29 appearances in the AHL.

Move to Europe - 6 years DEL

Since Toledo Storm stopped playing after the 2006/07 season, Magowan, who also played football in his youth - his parents come from Peru with his mother and his father from Scotland from typical football nations - moved to Europe, where he did the 2007/08 season played for the newcomer in Germany's 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga at SC Riessersee . Here he was able to convince with 50 scorer points in 50 games and especially with 26 goals this season he was one of the best scorers in the league and behind Brad Self 's top scorer of his club, he that for the following 2008-09 season in Germany's top ice hockey league DEL to Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg changed.

In his first DEL season, Magowan was the top scorer in the league with 29 goals at the end of the main round, so that his contract was extended by the Lower Saxony for another 2 years during the season. Also in the following two seasons Magowan was the top scorer of his club with John Laliberté and thus made a decisive contribution that the Wolfsburg Grizzlys in the 2010/11 season with first place after the preliminary round and reaching the play-off finals that up to then celebrated the most successful result in their history. During his time in Wolfsburg, he was selected for the club's image campaigns and years later, people remembered his ability to assert himself in front of the goal, which was always associated with a top position in the penalty bank statistics.

For the 2011/12 season Magowan moved to the financially stronger league competitor Adler Mannheim , with whom he again reached the play-off final, with 19 goals in the main round was the second best goalscorer of his teams behind Mike Glumac and in the play-offs with Adam Mitchell and Christoph Ullmann formed the most successful series of attacks. The following two seasons with the Adler were marked by injuries, in particular an adductor injury in the 2013/14 season , although his coach at the time, Hans Zach, continued to believe that he was dangerous.

For the 2014/15 season , despite the current contract, the Mannheimers no longer planned with him, so he completed a trial training with the league competitor Kölner Haie . Ultimately, however, after 299 DEL games with a record of 239 points, including 135 goals, from October 2014 he went on the hunt for goals for the Löwen Frankfurt from the DEL2 , which initially signed him up to January 2015 for the long-term injured Kyle Ostrow. Although Magowan was able to score 9 goals and 8 assists in 17 games for Hessen, the option to extend the contract was not drawn by the club in January 2015 and instead a defender, David Hajek, was recruited. In February 2015 Magowan was signed up by the Vienna Capitals from the highest Austrian ice hockey league for Nicolas Deschamps , who was returning to North America, until the end of the season , where he was able to move into the play-off final with the capital city club.

For the following season 2015/16 he kept himself fit with the Löwen Frankfurt until the Lausitzer Füchse, who also play in the DEL2, equipped him with a 4-week trial contract in December 2015 in a sporting crisis, which after a balance of 10 points of which 5 Goals in 11 games was extended until the end of the season.
