history
The district was formed on July 25, 1952 as part of an administrative reform from parts of the districts of Zauch-Belzig and Westhavelland .
On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed the Brandenburg district . When the GDR joined the Federal Republic of Germany in 1990, it was assigned to the state of Brandenburg . So the district became a part of this country on October 3 or finally on October 14, 1990 (date of the state elections). As a result of a district reform , the Brandenburg district was merged on December 6, 1993 together with the Belzig and Potsdam (Land) districts (excluding the independent cities of Brandenburg an der Havel and Potsdam ) to form the Potsdam-Mittelmark district. The new district administration took its seat in Bad Belzig .
