Schleswig-Holstein State League 1949/50
The Schleswig-Holstein regional league was held for the third time in the 1949/50 season and formed the substructure of the first-class Oberliga Nord until the 1962/63 season. As in the previous year, the regional league was played with twelve teams; the master was allowed to participate in the promotion round to the first-class Oberliga Nord, the teams in the last two places had to relegate to the district league. Last year's champion Itzehoer SV was able to defend his title this season and was promoted to the league as third in the promotion round.
Season course
The first half of the season was dominated by 1. FC Phönix Lübeck , who did not suffer a defeat until matchday 12 and had a seven point lead. On matchday 12, Phönix won the game against Gut Heil Neumünster 4: 3 - but the game was rated 0: 0 and 2: 0 points for Gut Heil Neumünster because Lübeck used a player who was not eligible to play. On the following match day, the leaders missed three penalties against Flensburg 08 and lost the game, which meant that the lead was reduced to just two points. After several mistakes by Lübeck, Itzehoer SV was able to secure the championship lead and secured first place on matchday 21 with a 3-1 victory over their rivals Phoenix Lübeck.
The relegation race was decided at the "green table": While the police SV Kiel was already relegated, Gut Heil Neumünster was actually relegated until they were awarded the points from the game against Phoenix Lübeck. An already scheduled replay between FC Union Neumünster and Flensburg 08 was canceled, so that instead of Gut Heil Neumünster, local rivals Union took eleventh place. Last year's runner-up Eutin 08 disappointed this season and only managed to stay three game days before the end of the season.

Promotion round to the national league
The four district league champions met in the promotion round to the regional league. While Schleswig had 06 before the last matchday on June 25, 1950, TSV Neustadt, TSV Brunsbüttelkoog and VfR Neumünster were still fighting for promotion. Since Neumünster lost its home game against Neustadt and Brunsbüttelkoog won against Schleswig, Neustadt and Brunsbüttelkoog managed to rise.
