location

The village of Leißnitz is located about three kilometers west of the Friedland core city and seven kilometers south of the district town of Beeskow . Leißnitz lies on the eastern bank of the Leißnitzsee , which is connected to the Schwielochsee via the Glower See . In the north of the town the Spree flows into the lake. The surrounding villages of Leißnitz are Kummerow in the north, Zeust in the northeast, Friedland in the east, Möllen in the southeast, Niewisch in the south and on the other side of the Spree the districts of Trebatsch in the southwest and Ranzig in the west, which belong to the municipality of Tauche .

The residential areas Glowe , Kuhnsdorf and Sarkow belong to Leißnitz . The K6715 district road runs through Leißnitz from Kummerow to Glowe.

history

The row village of Leißnitz was first mentioned in 1518, when the place was called Leißnigk . The place name comes from the Sorbian language and indicates the location of the village on the edge of the forest. Leißnitz was originally a Vorwerk of the Sorbian manor Glowe.

From 1533 at the latest, Leißnitz belonged to the Friedland rule . To the south of the village ran the border to Niederlausitz , to which Glowe belonged to the Beeskow lordship . In 1533 the Friedland dominion was sold to the Order of St. John for a price of 21,500 thalers . Since then, Leißnitz has been part of the Friedland Order . This was confiscated in 1811 by the then Saxon King Friedrich August I and then converted into the Royal Saxon Rent Office Friedland, which existed in this form until 1815 and then in the Kingdom of Prussia until 1874.

According to the topographical-statistical overview of the administrative district of Frankfurt an der Oder from 1844, there were 29 residential buildings in Leißnitz at that time , which were inhabited by 192 residents. The place was parish to the Wendish church in Friedland. In 1867 there were 30 houses and 214 inhabitants in the village. The Kuhnshof settlement belonging to the municipality of Leißnitz had 47 inhabitants.

Before 1815 Leißnitz belonged to the Krummspreeischen Kreis . As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Lower Lusatia, which previously belonged to the Kingdom of Saxony , came to the Kingdom of Prussia . Then the historic Krummspreeische Kreis was transformed into the Lübben district and became part of the Frankfurt administrative district in the Brandenburg province . On April 1, 1939, Sarkow was incorporated into Leißnitz, so that Glowe , which had already been incorporated into Sarkow, came to Leißnitz. When the district was newly formed in the GDR on July 25, 1952, the Lübben district was greatly reduced in size, large parts of the district, including the Leißnitz community, were added to the Beeskow district in the Frankfurt (Oder) district. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , the Beeskow district was renamed the Beeskow district . During the district reform on December 6, 1993, the municipality of Leißnitz was assigned to the Oder-Spree district . On March 31, 2001, Leißnitz with its districts Glowe, Kuhnshof and Sarkow and twelve other communities were incorporated into the city of Friedland .
