qualification

August 9, 1994

27 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualifying height for the direct entry into the final was 5.65 m, which was, however, not approached by anyone when it was clear that the 5.60 m skipped by eleven athletes would be sufficient for participation in the finals. The final field was filled with two other equally ranked athletes who had a score of 5.5 m and, according to the failed attempt rule, ranked ahead of the other participants with the same height. Thirteen pole vaulters (highlighted in light green) contested the final, which took place three days later.
