The women's 400-meter run at the 1994 European Athletics Championships was held from August 8 to 11, 1994 in the Olympic Stadium in the Finnish capital Helsinki .

The French Olympic champion in 1992 , world champion in 1991 and European championship third in 1990, Marie-José Pérec became European champion . She won ahead of the Russian Swetlana Goncharenko . Bronze went to the British Phylis Smith .
