The marl dump was a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony city of Hanover . In January 2019 the new nature reserve Bockmerholz, Gaim opened .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG HA 080 was 4 hectares in size, part of the fauna and flora habitat "Bockmerholz, Gaim" and bordered directly on the nature reserve " Gaim ". The area has been under nature protection since November 1, 1984. The responsible lower nature conservation authority was the Hanover region. With effect from January 11, 2019, the ordinance was repealed.
This dump, up to 11 meters high, is located in the north of the Gaim forest area and borders the embankment of the Mittelland Canal in the east . On the west and south slopes, it is characterized by semi-dry grass that is partially covered with bushes . Parts of the heap are overgrown with oat meadows . Birch trees and hybrid poplars thrive as pioneer vegetation on the plateau .
The dump is a retreat and regeneration space for endangered plant and animal species that are adapted to the location. It has a special meaning for butterflies .
