    Suffrage

The parliament has 76 members who are elected as direct candidates with a majority of the votes from one constituency. An election is only valid if 50% of the registered voters in the constituency have cast their votes. Mongolian citizens over the age of 18 who are resident in Mongolia have the right to vote. An age limit of at least 25 years applies to the right to stand.

    Chairman

The chairman of the parliament is elected by the members with a two-thirds majority from among their number. He is the spokesman for the legislature as well as the deputy of the state president and takes second place in the state hierarchy. The chairman chairs the parliamentary sessions and is responsible for handling the votes. He automatically becomes (ex officio) a member of the National Security Council.

Gombodschawyn Dzandanschatar (MVP) has been the chairman since February 2019 .

    tasks

Together with the government, the Great State of Chural draws up laws and decides to introduce them. The parties represented in parliament nominate the candidates for the direct election of the state president. Parliament approves the Prime Minister and the other ministers. It can override the President's veto with a two-thirds majority. This is also necessary for constitutional amendments.

    Election results

The elections on June 28, 2012 resulted in a victory for the Democratic Party (DP) over the previously ruling Mongolian People's Party (MVP). Four seats remained vacant.

In the election on June 29, 2016, the Mongolian People's Party (MVP) replaced the Democratic Party (DP) as the ruling party.
