Mouth & MacNeal
Mouth & MacNeal were a Dutch singing duo that achieved success throughout Europe in the “ Middle-of-the-Road-Sound ” in the early 1970s .
Band history
Willem Duyn († December 3, 2004) began as a drummer in the "Holland Quartet", then became a singer with the "Jay-Jays", disc jockey and finally founded the band "Speedway" in 1970. In 1971 he founded the duo "Mouth & MacNeal" with Maggie MacNeal .
The duo became internationally known with the hit song How Do You Do? , which reached number 5 in the German charts in spring 1972 and number 8 in the US Billboard charts . Covered in the German language version by Peter Petrel under the name " Die Windows ", the song became a top hit in Germany that same year. With their follow-up single Hello-A , Mouth & MacNeal were number 1 in Germany for several weeks in 1972 . In the same year You-Kou-La-Le-Lou-Pie was still a Top 20 hit, while Battering Ram could no longer place itself in Germany in spring 1973.
With I See a Star, the two represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 and took third place behind the winning titles Waterloo by ABBA and Sí by Gigliola Cinquetti . Shortly thereafter, the duo split up. While Maggie MacNeal was now active as a soloist, Mouth and his new partner Ingrid Kup founded the duo " Big Mouth & Little Eve ".
Willem Duyn died of cardiac arrest on December 3, 2004.
In 2007 the melody of How Do You Do? Taken over by Scooter for the song The Question Is What Is the Question .
