NDR 1 Lower Saxony is a nationwide radio program of the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR) for the state of Lower Saxony .

NDR 1 Lower Saxony defines itself as a harmonious regional radio. It reports extensively from Lower Saxony and plays international oldies, harmonious pop music and German cult hits. The word share is very high at around 30 percent for a format radio .

The program is developing from a hit to an oldie pop station: the proportion of international titles or no hits is now 85 percent.

Regional reporting is a key feature of NDR 1 Lower Saxony. The program broadcasts news from the regions of Lower Saxony several times a day at half an hour . Since 1988, the program has been splitting up into windows that each send messages for their own region. These regional news then come from the five NDR studios in Oldenburg, Osnabrück, Lüneburg, Braunschweig and Hanover. But the main news on the hour also reports in great detail on topics from Lower Saxony.

In hourly broadcasts in the evening, the program reports in detail on specific topics: Monday: Low German , Tuesday: culture and books, Wednesday: advice and health, Thursday: politics, Friday: music and personalities, Saturday and Sunday: music.

Locations

The program is mainly broadcast from the NDR-Landesfunkhaus in Hanover on the Maschsee . In order to enable extensive regional reporting, the NDR is represented with eight correspondents and five studios in Lower Saxony. The locations of the correspondent's offices: Lingen / Emsland , Otterndorf / Niederelbe , Esens / East Friesland , Verden , Hameln / Weserbergland , Vechta , Wilhelmshaven and Berlin . The studios are in Braunschweig , Göttingen , Oldenburg , Osnabrück and Lüneburg . NDR 1 Niedersachsen plays melodic, relaxed music, predominantly oldies (50%), pop ballads (30%) and German cult hits (20%). The music is continuously changed and the number of hits is reduced.

The music selection is not clearly based on genre (e.g. pop music ), but rather the music editors select the titles according to their relaxed appearance. The program plays performers from almost all musical genres: pop (e.g. Abba, Katie Melua), rock (ballads by Rolling Stones , Santana ), country (e.g. Chet Atkins , Johnny Cash ), instrumental (e.g. B. history

The program was founded when, at the end of the 1970s, the then Christian Democratic state government of Lower Saxony, headed by Ernst Albrecht , began to take action against the NDR , which was then decried as " red radio " for political reasons . By breaking up the national channel NDR 1 / WDR 1 at the time in favor of a Schleswig-Holstein, a Hamburg and a Lower Saxony state program and establishing a Lower Saxony house broadcaster in Hanover, Albrecht hoped for better political control of employees and programs. Accordingly, the station and program acquired the reputation of being close to the CDU.

The program started on January 1, 1981 , was to have a strong regional focus. It is true that the Hanover State Broadcasting House, from which one could most likely have expected reporting from Lower Saxony, had already been founded in 1952. The share of information from Lower Saxony remained low in the entire NDR program (or until 1956 for its predecessor NWDR). The amount of radio information recorded in the NDR program by the Lower Saxony State Broadcasting House on Maschsee even decreased significantly between 1956 and 1977. For the CDU, the weak regional reporting became the main argument for NDR wave and program reform.

NDR 1 Lower Saxony, which was called NDR 1 Radio Lower Saxony until May 13, 2002 , initially developed into a downright failure after its start. 450,000 listeners meant a very small market share of just five percent. Among other things, national and international news was missing at the beginning. The establishment of regional program windows also took several years; The regional studios in Lower Saxony were not adequately strengthened until after 1999 .

Thanks to many powerful basic network transmitters, NDR 1 Lower Saxony can be received via VHF in Lower Saxony , Bremen , Hamburg and partly in Schleswig-Holstein , North Rhine-Westphalia , Saxony-Anhalt , Thuringia and the Netherlands . Since May 28, 2014, NDR1 Niedersachsen has also been broadcasting from Klieversberg in Wolfsburg, with an output of 100 watts on the VHF frequency 90.4 MHz.
