Narodytschi ( Ukrainian Народичі ; Russian Народичи Naroditschi , Polish Narodycze ) is an urban-type settlement in the Ukrainian Oblast of Zhytomyr and the administrative center of the raion of the same name with 2800 inhabitants (2019).

Building in Narodychi

The village was founded in 1545 and received urban-type settlement status in 1958. In April 1986, the area was heavily contaminated by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster , as a result, a large part of the population settled, several factories and a school were closed, and a large number of buildings are empty. In the summer of 1991 the place was declared a reconstruction zone together with 35 other villages, but it is still on the edge of the Chernobyl exclusion zone .

Narodychi is located at the mouth of the Scherew ( Жерев ) in the Ush 135 km north of the Oblast center Zhytomyr and 50 km northeast of Korosten . Territorial roads T-06-08 and T-06-04 run through the village .

In addition to Narodytschi, the following nine villages belonged to the settlement council with a total area of ​​127.392 km²:

As part of the administrative-territorial reform of 2015, all the municipalities of Narodychi Raion merged into a single rural municipality in this Raion.
