Romaniw ( Ukrainian Романів ; Russian Романов Romanow , Polish Romanów ) is an urban-type settlement in the Ukrainian Oblast of Zhytomyr and the administrative center of the raion of the same name with about 7600 inhabitants (2014).

history

The village was founded in 1471, received in 1817 the town charter and in 1924 the status of an urban-type settlement. From 1924 to the end of 2003 the place was called Dzerzhynsk .

geography

Romaniw is located on the Lisowa ( Лісова ), a tributary of the Teteriw 63 km west of the Oblast center Zhytomyr . Territorial road T-06-18 runs through the village .

The Romaniv Rajon , founded in 1923 , whose administrative center is the village, is located in the southwest of the Zhytomyr Oblast. It has an area of ​​927.9 km² and about 29,000 inhabitants. The population density is 32 inhabitants per km².
