Brussyliw ( Ukrainian Брусилів ; Russian Брусилов Brussilow , Polish Brusiłów ) is an urban-type settlement in the Ukrainian Oblast of Zhytomyr and the administrative center of the raion of the same name with about 4900 inhabitants (2018).
The village was founded in 1543 and received urban-type settlement status in 1979.
geography
Brussyliw is located on the Sdvysh ( Здвиж ), a 145-kilometer tributary of the Teteriv, 75 km east of the Oblast center Zhytomyr and 86 km west of Kiev . The territorial roads T-06-11 and T-10-28 run through the village .
Rajon
The Brusyliv Raion , the administrative seat of which is the locality, is located in the west of the Zhytomyr Oblast and borders with the Kiev Oblast . It has an area of 626 km² and about 15,000 inhabitants. The population density is 25 inhabitants per km².
Personalities
In 1882 the Ukrainian linguist, ethnographer, historian, university rector and Ukrainian-Orthodox metropolitan and primate Ivan Ohijenko and in 1885 the Russian-Yiddish writer and publicist David Ignatoff were born in the town.
