The Großer Wotig nature reserve is a 212 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , east of Kröslin . The area includes the island of Großer Wotig, located in the floodplain area of ​​the Peene River, with intact flood grassland , shallow water areas and a strip of land with floodplain and spring moor locations.

The areas are located in the Usedom Island Nature Park and are owned by the Foundation for Environmental and Nature Conservation Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Walking on and driving on the areas is not permitted, either by water or by land.

Wildlife

The nature reserve is of great importance as a habitat for various bird, amphibian and reptile species. Alpine beach runner , curlew , redshank , lapwing , green toad , natterjack toad , grass snakes and sand lizards occur.

The dunlin and ruff population have decreased in recent years.
