The nature reserve Schwingetal and Peenewiesen near Trantow is a nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania not far east of the town of Loitz . It was designated on October 19, 1990 and covers an area of 580 hectares. With the protection, a natural stream course and parts of the valley moor of the Peenewiesen are to be protected and preserved. The state of the area is considered to be good, although the nearby gravel mining and expansion and maintenance work on the stream can have a negative impact on the hydrological condition. The area is not accessible by hiking trails. The extensive expansion of a road from Trantow to Treuen in 2009 was heavily criticized by the BUND .
history
The Schwingetal was created over 10,000 years ago as an erosion valley from the last ice age . In the following millennia, the brook cut several meters deep into the surrounding areas and formed meanders , islands, impact and sliding slopes . Large stone graves east of Loitz indicate settlement as early as 4,500 years ago. The Slavs settled in the area from the 6th to the 8th centuries. From the 13th century onwards, German settlers cleared large areas of forest on the higher moraine areas. The swing arm was dammed up for the operation of water mills . On the Swedish matriculation cards in 1682 there is a grazed valley moor. The peat cuttings in the area of the Peenewiesen were made between 1840 and 1890. Today's use is limited to grazing the valley slopes with Gotland sheep .
