The nature reserve Ladebower Moor is a 133 hectares wide conservation area two kilometers north of the town of Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern .

The protected status 24 November 1997, the goal of an inshore, strong ausgetorftes flow Moor to get with adjacent dry locations. The current state of the area is assessed as good after drainage ditches were closed in 1993. The area may not be entered. Adjacent paths allow insights.

history

The area was created as a dead ice hole over 10,000 years ago. The thawing ice left a surface of water that was then swamped with a flow moor up to three meters thick. Water streamed into the moor from the terminal moraine to the north , and higher elevations were covered with drifting sands.

The Swedish registration card from 1697 shows a swampy pasture land. The Hartmann ponds in the western part go back to peat cuttings. The name comes from the last tenant of the land. The peat was used from the beginning of the 19th century in the nearby Greifswald saltworks and later in a brick factory. During the GDR era, the ponds were used as fish rearing waters. The area was drained through ditches with a pumping station to the Ryck . In the drier northern part of the area, gravel mining and arable use took place. As part of the renaturation , the trenches were closed in 1993, which caused the water levels to rise sharply. The northern areas have been grazed again since 1994 after lying fallow for decades.

Flora and fauna

The Hartmann ponds are surrounded by reeds . Encircled with orchids such as the marsh orchid , also swamp yarrow , Gelbsegge , fox sedge , marsh bedstraw , Common pennywort , tangle-rush and cutting . It is followed by an alder forest with bog birch and willow. The original moor vegetation with peat moss , round-leaved sundew , dyer's notch and devil's bite still settles between the peat cuttings . The wet grassland is occupied by marsh grass meadows, which merge into poor grass at higher altitudes .

With the upgrading of the site through rewetting in 1993, the lapwing , snipe , redshank , corn corn and spotted rail breed again . A total of 79 breeding bird species have been identified since then. The lemon wagtail is a Germany-wide specialty. The otter hunts in the area.
