The Lower Saxony Ministry for the Environment, Energy, Construction and climate protection is one of ten ministries of the country Lower Saxony . It was set up in 1986 and is located in Archivstrasse in the Lower Saxony state capital Hanover . The ministry has been headed by Minister Olaf Lies ( SPD ) since November 22, 2017 . State Secretary Frank Doods (SPD) has also been in office since then .

tasks

The protection of water, nature, soil and air are the basis of the work of the Ministry of the Environment. Climate protection, waste, radiation protection, energy and sustainability development are also topics that are dealt with in the ministry. According to the Atomic Energy Act, the ministry is the supervisory authority for nuclear power plants in Lower Saxony and is also responsible for the interim and final storage of radiological waste.

Since it was founded, the ministry has had its headquarters in the building at Archivstrasse 2 / corner of Calenberger Strasse. The four-sided structure built by the architect Hermann Hunaeus in several construction phases from 1837 to 1879 encloses an inner courtyard. The structure was originally designed as a building for the government of the Kingdom of Hanover . In front of the main entrance to the building on the street Am Archiv, there are charging stations for electrically powered vehicles that can be used day and night .
