Nozawa Onsen ( Japanese 野 沢 温泉 村 , - mura ) is a ski resort in Nagano Prefecture and a well-known ski resort in Japan .
14 residents of the small village have already taken part in the Winter Olympics.
history
In 1930, the ski pioneer Hannes Schneider came to Japan at the invitation of the Japanese Crown Prince to explain the Arlberg technology in lectures and seminars . In the same year Schneider's book The Miracle of the Snowshoe was published in Japanese. In Nozawa Onsen, the practical part, the ski courses, followed.
The second ski lift in Japan was built here in the 1950s .
In 1971 Nozawa Onsen became the twin town of St. Anton am Arlberg , the place where Hannes Schneider worked.
In 1995, the 15th Interski Congress took place in Nozawa Onsen .
In 1998, Nozawa Onsen hosted the Nagano Winter Olympics biathlon competitions.

A local specialty is nozawana , a type of tsukemono .

The village and the ski area are connected by a 300 meter long conveyor belt (Yu-road), which brings the guest effortlessly from the village to the valley station.
With 2 gondola lifts , 22 chair lifts and a total slope length of 50 km, Nozawa Onsen is one of the largest ski areas in Honshū .
Japanese Ski Museum
Another attraction for ski fans is the Japanese Ski Museum , which can be reached directly on skis.
A large collection of historical skis, including from Austria , China and Mongolia , is exhibited and also shows very clearly how skiing came to Japan.
Onsen
Nozawa Onsen is also well known for its variety of hot springs ( onsen ). There are over 30 hot springs and 13 public baths where you can bathe for free. You will be entertained by the residents (Yunakama) who live nearby.
Tourists are shown in the hottest spring - the Ogama spring comes to about 90 degrees - the hot water for boiling eggs ( onsen tamago ).
