Ober-Ohmen is a district of the community Mücke in the Vogelsbergkreis in central Hesse .

The place is at the foot of the Vogelsberg on the Ohm . State road 3073 runs through the village .

The first known and secured mention of the village took place in 1241 under the name superiori Amene in the Arnsburg monastery record book . With older mentions (around 780 to 1008) it cannot be decided with certainty whether they refer to Ober- or Nieder-Ohmen.

In the 15th century, the place had blood jurisdiction . So you could even pass and execute death sentences. In the 16th century, most of the inhabitants made a living from the cutlery trade . A school in the village is mentioned as early as 1570 .

During the interim , Georg Rupel was pastor in Ober-Ohmen. In 1552 he had to testify in an Anabaptist trial. At that time he said that he was about 29 years old and had been a pastor "to Ohm" for four years. During the Reformation, church property was converted to pay teachers.

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Ober-Ohmen in 1830:

"Oberohmen (L. Bez. Grünberg) evangel. Parish village; is located in Vogelsberg on the Ohm, 2 1 ⁄ 2  St. von Grünberg, and belongs to the Baron von Riedesel. The place has 153 houses and 810 inhabitants, who are Protestant apart from 1 Catholics, as well as 1 church, 4 grinding and oil mills. The inhabitants practice a strong breeding of geese, as well as a not insignificant trade in self-spun yarn, and the buckle makers and brandy burners are particularly noticeable among the craftsmen. - The church is first known through a dispute which ruled in 1224 between Adelheid von Munzenberg and Conrad Schenk von Klingenberg over the church law, and which was decided by the archdeacon in favor of the former. This church set was left in 1291 by Werner von Münzenberg (von Falkenstein) to the Antoniter house in Grünberg, on the condition that two priests of the same should do the church service in the chapel of the Munzenberg Castle and live in the city ( oppidum ). "

On December 31, 1971, Ober-Ohmen was incorporated into the municipality of Mücke as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

Courts since 1803

In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or the landlords and thus the “Patrimonial Court of the Barons Riedesel zu Eisenbach ” in Ober-Ohmen was responsible for Ober-Ohmen. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .

With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance were transferred to the newly created regional and city courts in 1821 as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. In 1821 the Barons Riedesel zu Eisenbach ceded their rights at the Ober-Ohmen court to the Grand Duchy of Hesse. " Landgericht Grünberg " was therefore from 1822 to 1879 the name of the court of first instance that was responsible for Ober-Ohmen.

On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand-ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Amtsgericht Grünberg" and assigned to the district of the regional court of Giessen .

On July 1, 1968, the Grünberg District Court was dissolved, while Ober-Ohmen was added to the Alsfeld District Court . In the Federal Republic of Germany, the superordinate instances are the Regional Court of Giessen , the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.

Evangelical Church in Ober-Ohmen

The nave of the church in Ober-Ohmen was demolished and renewed at the end of the 18th century because it was in disrepair. The massive former choir tower , which originally dates back to Romanesque times, has since been separated from the new hall church - it was left standing as a bell tower.

In this tower there are remains of wall paintings that were probably made in the 14th century, i.e. in the Gothic period. They are among the oldest of their kind in the Vogelsberg, but have only been partially exposed. On the north wall you can see St. Elisabeth at the feeding of a beggar, in the middle of the picture an apostles cross and above a stylized lily.
