Ocean's 8 is a US Heist - comedy . The film is a female-cast offshoot and is the sequel to Ocean's Eleven , Ocean's 12, and Ocean's 13 . Gary Ross has directed and written the script with Olivia Milch . The film was released on June 8, 2018 by Warner Bros. in the United States. The German theatrical release was on June 21, 2018.

Danny Ocean's newly-released sister, Debbie Ocean, teams up to undertake a financially rich foray at New York's annual star-studded Met Gala. Ocean's 8 was able to convince 69 percent of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes and received a Metascore of 61 out of 100 possible points on Metacritic .
Catherine Newmark from Zeit Online thinks that Ocean's 8 is a fast-paced and entertaining heist film in which the star ensemble hangs in its roles with noticeable lust. The film, which is part of a female trend in Hollywood, "explicitly stages the sworn female ties, and the actresses are also hiding outside of fiction," which makes female solidarity in real Hollywood in the age of MeToo very pleasant. Although Newmark recognizes that the film has little to do with reality, it is just as “light-hearted, senseless and enjoyable to look at” as the male predecessor films and thereby opens up new roles for actresses.
In contrast to Catherine Newmark, Daniel Krüger of the Music Express in Ocean's 8 does not see any progress in the women's movement in Hollywood, in which actresses want to give actresses the same fees as their male colleagues, more dialogues and important leading roles. Although the film seems like a step in the right direction, it still relies only on the principle of “women instead of men”, whereby director Gary Ross does not create any interesting characters and, above all, Sandra Bullock's character is only about “its kinship with that of George Clooney Danny Ocean defined in three films under Soderbergh [...] ”. The script is uninspired, with the boring preparation for the coup and the far too easy implementation of the robbery being emphasized negatively, and it cannot be masked by camera tricks and cuts. In addition, the fact that the entire coup can only be achieved by a well-known man is, as Krüger summarizes, "like a slap in the face of the women's movement in Hollywood".
David Kleingers from Spiegel Online sees Ocean's 8 as a routine heist movie. The figures are only briefly outlined without detailed figure drawings, which makes the film look like a "showcase for the stars", although in this genre the real feasibility of the coup or the background to it are only secondary. Rather, it is about the most refined implementation possible, which the film does not make worse than its predecessors, but still only presents "familiar things in new clothes". In addition, a few gently ironic tips would not be enough to overtake the traditional gender roles and to be an "act of equality". In summary, Kleingers says that Ross did not manage to give the shine any substance.
