Orange County is a county in the state of New York in the United States . At the 2010 census , the county had 372,813 residents and a population density of 176.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Goshen .

history

The county derives its name from the Dutch King William III. from Orange-Nassau ( William of Orange ).

National Register of Historic Places

The Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site is (2006) is one of eight National Historic Landmarks in the county.

Orange County's 179 structures, historic districts, and sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of February 19, 2018. Eight locations are listed as National Historic Landmarks by the National Park Service .

The county has an area of 2,172 square kilometers, of which 58 square kilometers are water. Orange County is bordered to the east by the Hudson River , to the southeast by Rockland County , to the south by the state of New Jersey , and to the north by Sullivan Counties and Ulster Counties .
