After his apprenticeship at Orgelbau Sauer, Frankfurt / Oder from 1972 to 1975, Rainer Wolter worked at Jehmlich-Orgelbau in Dresden, first in the console workshop, then in the field. There he looked after organs from important Saxon organ builders such as Gottfried Silbermann , Johann Gottfried Hildebrandt , Urban Kreutzbach , Trampeli and Tobias Heinrich Gottfried Trost .

In 1991 he was in the skilled trades entered Hamburg and now plays restorations and overhauls of many organs in Brandenburg , Berlin and in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with its own workshop before.

In 1995 he moved his workshop to Zudar / Rügen. He restored a large number of historic organs that characterize the organ landscape of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, including instruments by Buchholz , Friedrich Albert Mehmel , Barnim Grüneberg , Ferdinand Dinse , Nerlich, Friedrich Friese III and Friedrich Hermann Lütkemüller .

He has been based in Dresden since 2006 , with a second office in Zudar / Rügen.
