history

In 1806, William Colgate founded the Colgate & Company soap factory in New York, USA. In 1872 Colgate introduced a new product, Cashmere Bouquet , a perfumed soap. In 1908 they sold their first tube of toothpaste .

In the western United States, the BJ Johnson Soap Company began making a soap made from palm oil and olive oil in 1864 . The soap became so popular that the company chose the company name after it - Palmolive.

The Palmolive Company merged with the soap manufacturers Peet Brothers to form the Palmolive Peet Company in 1926 . Finally, in 1928, the Palmolive Peet Company and Colgate & Company were merged to form the Colgate Palmolive Peet Company. In 1953 the company name was changed to Colgate-Palmolive Company.

In the early years of television, Colgate-Palmolive competed with Procter & Gamble to sponsor soap operas . Later, the actress Jan Miner was hired, who advertised Palmolive washing-up liquid as “ Madge ” (on German-speaking television as “Tilly”) for 27 years with the slogan “You're soaking in it” (“You're bathing your hands in it "). Appeared on the German market Colgate in the 1950s as a competitor to the detergent Persil the company Henkel , but could not prevail.

In 2004 Colgate-Palmolive took over the Swiss GABA group in Therwil , which manufactures the dental care products Aronal, Elmex and Meridol, among other things, and was able to improve its situation on the market. In 2014 the company was integrated into the group and production relocated to Poland.
