Paul Dempsey (Bishop)

Paul Dempsey (born April 20, 1971 in Carlow ) is an Irish clergyman and appointed Roman Catholic Bishop of Achonry .

Life

Paul Dempsey studied at the Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy, led by the Spiritan Order , and later at St. Patrick's College in Carlow. On July 6, 1997, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Kildare and Leighlin through Bishop Laurence Ryan .

After the ordination he was active in the pastoral care. From 2004 to 2008 he was also head of diocesan vocational pastoral care and youth pastoral care . After a sabbatical year , he returned to pastoral care in 2009. In 2014 he was appointed Diocesan Consultor and Dean of the Deanery of Kildare and Leighlin North . Since 2015 he has also been pastor in Newbridge , where he had been a chaplain from 2009 to 2014.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Achonry on January 27, 2020 . The episcopal ordination is scheduled for April 19, 2020.
