Pavillon de Paris
The Pavillon de Paris was a large concert hall in the northern part of Paris , France , near the Porte de Pantin metro station ; He was on the site of the former slaughterhouse of La Villette built. With a capacity of around 10,000 seats, the pavilion was the largest concert hall in the city between September 1975 and 1980. The pavilion was opened on the initiative of KCP (Koski-Cauchoix Productions), which had previously tried unsuccessfully to present rock concerts in the existing Paris halls. This included the Palais des Sports de Paris .
Many well-known rock bands performed in the pavilion: The Who , AC / DC , Pink Floyd , Supertramp , Kansas , Bob Marley , Queen , The Rolling Stones , Aretha Franklin , Neil Young , Earth, Wind & Fire , David Bowie , Iggy Pop , Bob Seger , Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Hallyday .
Since the pavilion was built on the site of the former slaughterhouse, it was popularly known as "Les Abattoirs" (the slaughterhouse), and some bands that recorded their concerts in the pavilion referred to the hall as Abattoirs . For example, the French filmmaker Freddy Hausser made a Rolling Stones concert film in the pavilion, which was later published under the title Les Stones aux abattoirs ("The Stones At The Slaughterhouse").
In 1980 the Pavillon de Paris was closed and for the next three years most of the bands performed in the Hippodrome de Pantin . In 1983 the Hippodrome itself was replaced by Le Zénith de Paris .
