Pavlovce (Hungarian Kapipálvágása - until 1907 Kapipálvágás ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 791 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Vranov nad Topľou of, part kraj Prešovský lies.

The municipality is located on the northeastern edge of the Slanské vrchy Mountains , in the Pavlovský potok valley in the Topľa catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 300  m nm and is five and a half kilometers from Hanušovce nad Topľou , 21 kilometers from Prešov and 29 kilometers from Vranov nad Topľou .

The Podlipníky settlement northeast of the main town also belongs to the municipality.

Neighboring municipalities are Radvanovce and Chmeľov in the north, Medzianky in the northeast, Hanušovce nad Topľou in the east, Petrovce and Zlatá Baňa in the south, Podhradík and Okružná in the south-west, Šarišská Poruba in the west and Lipníky in the north-west.

history

Pavlovce was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1359 in a territorial dispute between the lords of Kapušany and Solivar as Paluagasa . In 1427 25 porta are recorded in a tax register. In the same year the eastern part, later Kecerovské Pavlovce , was separated and remained an independent place until 1944. The remaining part was owned by the Kapy family until the 17th century and by the Ghillányi family in the 19th century . In 1828 there were 40 houses and 322 residents who were employed as lime burners, farmers, cattle farmers and weavers.

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 748 inhabitants lived in Pavlovce, of whom 723 were Slovaks , 16 were Roma and one each was a Magyar and a Czech . Seven residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .

481 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 15 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 235 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, five residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one resident each to the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Pentecostal movement; one resident professed a different denomination. One resident had no denomination and eight residents had no denomination.
