Together with Großaga , Kleinaga , Lessen and Seligenstädt, Reichenbach forms the 16.38 km² district of Aga in the city of Gera in Thuringia with a total of 1734 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011).

Reichenbach is located in the north of the city of Gera.
history
The place is a German settlement, first mentioned on May 23, 1364 in a document about the pledging of the house Langenberg as Richenbach . The name is derived from the numerous watercourses in the district. He used to belong to the Reuss younger line . Großaga was traditionally a parish and school location.
The estate located in the village has a checkered history. a. the Knights of Etzdorff on Großaga. Historically interesting is the former inn "Zum golden Kranich" at the junction to Großaga: At the behest of the then sovereign Heinrich XXX. Built from 1751, it served as a customs post on the (for the time) heavily frequented trade route from Gera to Leipzig . Until then, the Altenburgische Gasthof in Wachholderbaum had benefited from customs law . In the vernacular, the former customs office is called "Zum Goldenen Kranich" ( Defiance) .
On July 1, 1950, Reichenbach was incorporated into the new municipality of Aga.

Aga (Großaga, Kleinaga, Lessen, Reichenbach and Seligenstädt) was incorporated into the city of Gera on April 1, 1994 . Since then, the places together form the Aga district of the city of Gera with its own local constitution and district council (until II / 2009 local council) . The district mayor has been Bernd Müller (CDU) since 1994.
