Sinalunga is an Italian municipality with 12,455 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Siena in the Tuscany region .
geography
Sinalunga is located on a range of hills between the Chiana Valley and the Ombrone Valley, about 47 km east of the provincial capital Siena and about 73 km southeast of the regional capital Florence . The municipality is in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in zone D, 1 965 GR / G. The main bodies of water in the municipality are the Torrenti Foenna (20 of 37 km in the municipality) and Galegno (7 of 9 km in the municipality)
The main town of the municipality, Sinalunga, is divided into two parts: Sinalunga Paese is located on the hill with the historic old town, Pieve di Sinalunga, on the other hand, lies at the foot of this hill and was named after the Pieve di San Pietro ad Mensulas .
The districts ( frazioni ) include Bettolle , Farnetella (413 m), Guazzino (282 m), La Fratta (258 m), Rigomagno (411 m) and Scrofiano .
Neighboring municipalities are Asciano , Cortona ( AR ), Foiano della Chiana (AR), Lucignano (AR), Rapolano Terme , Torrita di Siena and Trequanda .

- Collegiata di San Martino , collegiate church at the entrance to the center of Sinalunga Paese. Was built in 1588 on the site of the old castle (Rocca). Contains the works Madonna col Bambino tra i Santi Martino e Sebastiano by Benvenuto di Giovanni, Madonna col Bambino e Santi by Sodoma, Sposalizio della Madonna by Rutilio Manetti (1612) and Santi Caterina da Siena, Domenico, Martino, Francesco, Lucia e Caterina d 'Alessandria by Giuseppe Nicola Nasini (1697).
- Madonna delle Nevi , church at the entrance to the center of Sinalunga Paese (17th century).
- Santa Croce , church at the entrance to the center of Sinalunga Paese with works from the Bottega by Luca Signorelli .
- Chiesa del Chiodo , church in Sinalunga Paese (Via Pinsuti). Arose as a hospital behind the Madonna delle Nevi church (13th century).
- Santa Lucia , church in the lower part of Sinalunga Paese. Dated in the twelfth or thirteenth century, it included the work Madonna del Carmine by Francesco Rustici, now kept in the Collegiata di San Martino in Sinalunga Paese, and the work Madonna con San Sebastiano e San Martino (created in 1509 by Benvenuto di Giovanni ).
- Palazzo Pretorio , former ruler's palace in the center of Sinalunga Paese (14th century).
- Convento di San Bernardino , monastery from 1449, just outside Sinalunga Paese, renovated in the 18th century, contains works by Sano di Pietro ( Cristo benedicente and Madonna del Rifugio ), Benvenuto di Giovanni ( Annunciazione , 1470) and Guidoccio Cozzarelli ( Battesimo di Cristo , ca.1483, and Incoronazione della Vergine col Bambino tra i Santi Simone e Taddeo , 1486).
- Pieve di San Pietro ad Mensulas , eponymous Pieve for the lower district of Pieve di Sinalunga . Was already documented in the 11th century (1040 and 1044). The facade was restored in 1935.
- Chiesa del Serraglio , church south of Sinalunga Paese and Sinalunga Pieve on the road to L'Amorosa and Torrita di Siena.
- San Giovanni Battista , church from 1392, contained the work Angelo annunziante e Vergine annunziata by Francesco di Valdambrino , district of Farnetella.
- Chiesa della Compagnia della Santa Croce , church in the district of Farnetella.
- Santa Maria , church at Farnetella.
- Santa Maria delle Grazie , church, Guazzino district.
- Cappella di San Michele , probably built by Baldassare Peruzzi , contains works of frescoes by Sodoma , district of La Fratta.
- San Giovanni alla Fratta , church near the La Fratta district.
- Cappella di Santa Maria Assunta , contains the work Madonna col Bambino, San Giovannino ei Santi Caterina, Bernardino e Francesco by Francesco Rustici , district L'Amorosa.
- San Marcellino , church in the Rigomagno district.
- Chiesa della Compagnia di Santa Croce , church in the Rigomagno district, first documented in 1468.

- The Valdichiana - Bettolle - Sinalunga motorway junction , which is important for the province of Siena, is located near Bettolle and connects Siena with the A1 (part of the Autostrada del Sole ). The further road from Siena to Perugia via Bettolle / Valdichiana is the Raccordo autostradale 6 (RA 6), which connects Tuscany with Umbria.
- Sinalunga is on the Empoli – Siena – Chiusi railway and a branch line to Arezzo operated by the Trasporto Ferroviario Toscano .
