Sohodol ( Aranyosszohodol in Hungarian ) is a Romanian municipality in the Alba district in Transylvania .
Geographical location
The municipality of Sohodol with its 31 villages and hamlets is located in the southwest of the Motzenland , between the foothills of the Bihor Mountains (Munții Bihorului) and the Transylvanian Ore Mountains (Munții Metaliferi) . On the Sohodol river of the same name - a right tributary of the Arieș - the town of Sohodol is located on the district road (Drum județean) DJ 750A, 5 kilometers southwest of Câmpeni (Topesdorf) ; the district capital Alba Iulia (Karlsburg) is about 86 kilometers southeast.
history
In the area of the municipality - at the caves Lucia Mare and Lucia Mică - finds were made according to Márton Roska, József Hampel (1898) and Károly Herepey, which point to the Early Bronze Age and the Paleolithic .
The place Sohodol was first mentioned in 1805 under the Hungarian name Szohodol .

The highest population of today's municipality - and at the same time that of the Romanians - was determined in 1930. The highest population of Germans (6) was registered in 1880, Hungarians (35) in 1910 and Roma in 1966. In addition, in 2002 a resident identified himself as a Ukrainian .
