Staré Mesto (German Old Town , Hungarian Óváros ) comprises the historical core of the Slovak capital Bratislava as well as some neighboring areas.
Most of the sights of the city as well as many institutions of the Slovak government and administration as well as the city administration are located here and the historical city center has largely been preserved.

The western part of the area is quite mountainous and is characterized by the Slavín monument, Horský park (mountain park ), villas of wealthy residents and embassy residences. The mountainous terrain ends in the south on the Danube , the most important dominant here is the Bratislava Castle . Right next door is the building of the Slovak National Council (Parliament). There is a memorial for Rabbi Moses Schreiber (also Moses Sofer , Chatam Sófer) right on the Danube . To the west, the area is bounded by the busy Prague-Budapest motorway . Under the castle are the remains of the former village / district Podhradie (German castle ground ).
