The Christian Art Foundation in Wittenberg owns an important collection of graphics of Christian art or with religious - existentialist content by internationally known artists from the 20th century to the present day. The foundation has its headquarters and exhibition rooms in Wittenberg Castle .

history

The Christian Art Wittenberg Foundation was founded in 2001 by the entrepreneurial couple Gisela Meister-Scheufelen and Ulrich Scheufelen from Baden-Württemberg in the Lutherstadt Wittenberg .

The foundation's first location was in the Cranachhaus , Schlossstrasse 1. From 2003 to 2017, the exhibition rooms were in the Old Town Hall . The Christian Art Foundation in Wittenberg has had its headquarters in the south wing of Wittenberg Castle since May 2017. The exhibition rooms can be reached via the visitor information desk in the castle church and castle.

The Christian Art Foundation in Wittenberg is run on a voluntary basis by a board of directors. Jutta Brinkmann from Wittenberg has been the chairman of the board since 2001.

collection

The foundation of the collection, which comprises more than 400 works, was donated to Wittenberg by the Scheufelen couple in 2001 and has grown steadily through donations from private collectors or artists, as well as through purchases and loans.
