The Documentary 2 is the sixth studio album by the American rapper The Game and a sequel to Games' previously most commercially successful predecessor The Documentary . The sound carrier was released as a double album, both CDs came on the market separately and one week apart. The Documentary 2 was first released on October 9, 2015 via Blood Money Entertainment and eOne Music , while The Documentary 2.5 was released a week later on October 16, 2015. The Documentary 2 charted at number 22 in the German album charts , while the sequel The Documentary 2.5 , published a week later, landed at 45th place.

As with games albums before, well-known guests such as Dr. Dre , Ice Cube , Snoop Dogg , Kendrick Lamar , Drake , Future , Nas , Busta Rhymes , will.i.am , YG , Lil Wayne and Kanye West .

In an interview with the radio station KPWR in June 2015, The Game stated that the album was "90%" finished, but that he was still on Dr. Dr's return from his vacation is waiting to finally complete the album. Many websites published possible title lists for The Documentary 2 (or The Documentary 2.5) before the album was released, but none of them were officially confirmed. On July 21, 2015, The Game posted a photo on his Instagram profile in which he was recording a song while sitting on the toilet. A few days later he posted another photo showing him with Tyrese Gibson in the studio.

On August 28, 2014, The Game announced that The Documentary 2 would be released on January 18, 2015. Previously, the compilation Blood Moon: Year of the Wolf was released, dated October 14, 2014 . The Documentary 2 and The Documentary 2.5 received different reviews from the specialist press. Ian Cohen from Pitchfork gave the album 7.2 points and wrote that The Documentary 2 would hardly differ musically from the previous albums LAX , The RED Album or Jesus Piece . So it is doubtful to consider the album as the successor to The Documentary. The guests on the album would hardly harmonize with The Game, only Drake and Kendrick Lamar highlighted Cohen. However, The Game still understands how to produce gangster rap in the West Coast style. With The Documentary 2, The Game is in the right place at the right time.

Editor Alexander Austel from laut.de gave the album three out of five possible points and thought that the time to release the album was wise (the album came out shortly after the rap group NWA was made into a film ). He also wrote that The Game "will never be on a par with its idols" . He is “maybe just too much of a fan” and “too close” to produce “a real classic” . Nevertheless, he keeps his own style, rhyme technique and subject matter. In conclusion, Austel wrote: “Being annoyed about the excessively long playing time of 73 minutes may be partly due to a certain impatience on my part. But also the fact that it was only enough for a rap record that was just above average. There are just so much more exciting topics on the sunny west coast than a sometimes very good rapper in normal form. "

Sebastien Francois gave The Documentary 2 four out of five possible points and described it as one of the best rap albums of 2015. The production is "great" , but also a bit monotonous. The Games continued to use the strong expression "bitch" and to mention his gang affiliation is now a bit too monotonous. Nevertheless, The Documentary 2 is all in all entertaining and can also be described as " magnus opus " games.
