Thilo Kreitmeier (born November 7, 1967 in Munich - Schwabing ) is a German musician ( tenor , alto saxophone , clarinet , flute ), composer and band leader .

Kreitmeier, a descendant of a family of hiking musicians from the Palatinate , began taking clarinet lessons from the age of ten. While studying business administration at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), which he in 1994 with a degree in business graduate ended, he studied in 1989 and 1994 saxophone at the Munich training center for Modern Music (MAZM) with Enrique Kropik, Jürgen Seefelder , Evan Tate, Thomas Zoller and musicology at the LMU Munich, attended the Richard Strauss Conservatory , is a state-recognized music teacher and has been working as a freelance musician and instrument teacher since 1994.

During his studies he gained experience in bands of different styles such as reggae , funk and salsa . He began his professional career in 1994 in blues and rhythm and blues bands such as the George Greene Hotline Band , where he was significantly influenced by tenor saxophonist Eddie Taylor and with Hermann Breuer , Albert C. Humphrey, Angela Brown , Andrew Lewis , Max Greger junior , William Paul, Louisiana Red , Christian Willisohn , Lillian Boutté , Ludwig Seuss and Al Jones , with whom he has been touring Europe regularly since 1995.

His development in swing and jazz was based on engagements with Charly Antolini and Jenny Evans , who played from the Great American Songbook . With Al Porcino , in whose big band he was the first tenor saxophonist since 2004, he played together with Herb Geller , Henning Sieverts , Claus Reichstaller , Claus Raible , John Marshall. He also worked with Dusko Goykovich , Harald Rüschenbaum , Bill Ramsey and the Hugo Strasser orchestra .

In 1996 his first CD was released under his own name Thilo Kreitmeier & Group - Jazzperience . Recordings from this were among the winners of the "Hennessy / Blue Note Jazz Search", as well as heard on television and radio. His interpretation of jazz is characterized by a pronounced melodiousness and the influence of legendary models such as Charlie Parker , Ben Webster , Sonny Rollins , Miles Davis . In 1998 he made further CD recordings for the Organic Music label with musicians from the Munich jazz scene such as Rocky Knauer , Johannes Herrlich , Rich Laughlin, Rudolf Roth , Guido May , Kerry Lee Dooley, Peter Tuscher , Michael Keul , Butch Kellem , Bastian Jütte , Matthias Bublath , Manolo Diaz , Titus Vollmer . His individual style is shaped by his own compositions and arrangements, which are initially based on bebop and mainstream , later integrating influences from soul jazz and increasingly elements of Latin American music . He made guest appearances in Munich clubs (Allotria, Unterfahrt , Nachtcafe), in the Allerheiligen-Hofkirche and in the Brunnenhof of the Munich Residence , as well as on national concert stages and festivals; Documented in 2007 by a concert recording of the BR as a live album .

As a studio musician , he made recordings for radio and television, including the film music Kleine Haie by Sönke Wortmann, and worked as a guest with Claudia Koreck , Willy Astor , Die Junge Tenöre , Evelyn Huber , Ron Williams and the Münchner Rundfunkorchester .
