Toby Emmerich

Tobias "Toby" Emmerich (born February 8, 1963 in New York City ) is an American film producer and screenwriter . He has been Chairman of the Warner Bros. Pictures Group since 2017 .

Life

Toby Emmerich was born in 1963 as the son of the Jewish art gallery owner André Emmerich (1924–2007). Because of increasing anti-Semitism, his father's family had emigrated from Frankfurt am Main to Amsterdam in 1931 and finally to New York City in 1940 . Mother Constance Emmerich's family had Romanian-Hungarian roots. He has two brothers: Adam and Noah Emmerich . The family is not related to the director Roland Emmerich .

Emmerich attended Calhoun School and studied at Wesleyan University , where he completed his English studies with specializations in classics and film in 1985.

From 1987 to 1992 Emmerich was A&R Manager at Atlantic Records . In 1992 he began his career in the film industry as a development and music supervisor for the film productions of New Line Cinema . In 2000, his screenplay for which was science fiction - drama Frequency of Gregory Hoblit filmed, and Emmerich made his first appearance as a producer. Since then he has served as executive producer on around 100 film and television productions . At New Line Cinema, Emmerich was President and Chief Operating Officer for eight years and in this role was responsible for the complete development, film production and film financing of all New Line Cinema projects.

In 2017, Emmerich joined the Warner Bros. Pictures Group as President and Chief Content Officer and was promoted to Chairman of the company at the turn of the year 2017/2018.

He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and children .
