The 18th stage of the Tour de France 2017 took place on July 20, 2017. The mountain stage led over 179.5 kilometers from Briançon to the mountain arrival at Col d'Izoard . There was an intermediate sprint after 91.5 kilometers in Les Thuiles and three mountain classifications , including the finish at the Col d'Izoard, hors categorie , and the Col de Vars , 1st category and a mountain classification of the 3rd category.
The winner of the day was the leader in the mountain classification Warren Barguil , who pulled away from the group of favorites a few kilometers from the finish and overtook Darwin Atapuma about 1,500 meters from the finish , who was the last of an originally 54 riders strong breakaway group that was left formed after 20 kilometers. Atapuma finished second, 20 seconds back. Just behind, Romain Bardet was third in front of Chris Froome , who defended his yellow jersey , and Rigoberto Urán .
