Trendsetter is the second solo album by the German rapper Fler . It was released on June 23, 2006 on the Aggro Berlin label .
background
The album was released almost a year after the controversially discussed debut Neue Deutsche Welle was released . Compared to its predecessor, the content of the album is more varied and personal. For example, in the song Vatermorgana , Fler settles accounts with his father, while Böser Engel deals with the relationship problems between Fler and an old love.
Four music videos were shot about trendsetter . The first two advertised the upcoming album and were also released as singles. Papa ist zurück was released on May 26, 2006. In the video, various reference persons from Fler's environment such as Bass Sultan Hengzt and DJ Desue can be seen again. The second single selected was Çüs Junge with Muhabbet . This was released on June 30, 2006 and contains two remixes by Çüs Junge , the instrumental version, the video and two bonus tracks. The third and fourth videos were shot to announce the Premium Edition by Trendsetter . The tracks were not released as a single. Chef (Clip & Klar) , which was the first to be completed, was not shown by MTV and Viva in the afternoon program due to the severity shown and was only included in the night program. During the day, on the other hand, fans at Get the Clip could vote for the video for We remain standing . During the refrain sung by Shizoe , statements about Fler from colleagues such as Sido , gynecologist , Tony D or the Beathoavenz are played in the video.
DVD
The Trendsetter Premium Edition was released on September 15, 2006 and consists of two discs. One of these is the Trendsetter DVD, which can also be bought individually in stores. The DVD contains interviews with Fler, live performances and backstage reports. For this purpose, friends and colleagues from Fler such as B. Sido, Tony D or Juelz Santana are shown commenting on Fler. The videos for NDW 2005 , Cüs Junge und Papa is back with the associated making-ofs can also be found on the DVD .

Trendsetter entered the Media Control album charts at number 4 in the 28th week of 2006 . In the following weeks, the record took 14th place; 28 and 34. Overall, the album was in the top 100 for 11 weeks. The first single to be released was the song Papa ist zurück , which entered the charts at position 23 and stayed in the top 100 for 9 weeks. The second single Çüs Junge reached number 50. In the following weeks, the single finished 63rd; 64 and 73. With the video for Papa ist zurück Fler was able to achieve first place five times in the TRL Most Wanted of the MTV show TRL . The video also took first place in the weekly charts.

The reviews of Trendsetter were mixed. The e-zine Laut.de rated the sound carrier with two out of a possible five evaluation points. The responsible editor Dani Fromm criticizes the rapper's "fixation" on money. She also points out that, from her point of view, Fler is not one of the best German rappers. Nevertheless, trendsetter is described as “better than its predecessor”. For example, DJ Desue's beats are highlighted as positive in the review.
“In the few places where Fler renounces boring turf behavior and the big gangster act and also for once does not wave the bills, he achieves a credibility that I admittedly would not have believed him to be. The editors of Rap.de describe trendsetter as a “very successful” album, which in terms of quality surpasses the first album Neue Deutsche Welle .
