Aerodrome (music festival)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aerodrome was a music festival in Austria .

In January 2004 the "Wiesen Festivals & Concerts GmbH" (former managing director: Ewald Tatar) decided to implement the Aerodrome 04. They wanted to establish a music festival that was unique in Austria and comparable in size to the Rock am Ring or Reading Festival festivals . The 2-day festival took place on Thursday, June 10th, 2004 and Friday, June 11th, 2004 on the Civitas Nova airfield in Wiener Neustadt ( Lower Austria ) on an area of 400,000 m² using two stages. Headliners were the bands Metallica , Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Pixies . The smaller stage ( FM4 stage) was in the Arena Nova event hall , which could hold up to 10,000 visitors, while the main stage for around 50,000 festival guests was set up in the open air. In addition, a campsite was built. The festival was sold out on both days with an average attendance of 65,000 people per day.

After Wiesens separated from his bookers and the resulting founding of Nova Music, the Aerodrome was organized in 2005 by “Artist Marketing Entertainment” on May 26th and 27th. The festival was set up much smaller than the year before. A total of 35,000 visitors came to the Civitas Nova site on the two days.

The 2006 Aerodrome was originally postponed to late summer due to the World Cup and numerous other planned festivals. In April 2006 the cancellation of the festival was finally announced. The reason given was the large number of festivals in 2006 and various cancellations of tours in late summer.

A continuation of the event is not planned.
