Albert Bunjaku (born November 29, 1983 in Gnjilane , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar football player . He plays in the position of the striker.

Career

Bunjaku came with his family to his father, who worked in Switzerland, at the age of seven and from then on lived in Fahrweid . At the age of 14, he joined his first football club, FC Schlieren, and switched to Grasshoppers Zurich some time later , before losing his interest in football for some time. After half a year he started again at SC Young Fellows Juventus . While he played as a full-back with the Grasshoppers, he was used as a striker with the Young Fellows.

societies

Bunjaku began his professional career at the Swiss club FC Schaffhausen in the Challenge League , the second highest Swiss league. In the 2003/04 season he rose with the team as first in the Super League . In the following year and a half, he completed 39 first division games.

During the winter break of the 2005/06 season, Bunjaku moved to the German second division club SC Paderborn 07 . There he played ten second division games and scored one goal. After only six months he went to the regional division FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt . There he has already scored 25 goals in 56 league games. In the 2007/08 season he was able to score 16 goals in 28 games before a shoulder and upper arm injury ended the season prematurely for him. He gained popularity when he scored two goals in the first round of the DFB Cup against Bayern Munich as a substitute on August 10, 2008 . In the first half of the 3rd league in 2008/09 he scored nine goals before leaving the club.

On February 2, 2009, Bunjaku moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for 1. FC Nürnberg for € 400,000. At the same time, the Nuremberg striker Chhunly Pagenburg moved to Erfurt. However, it was never reported whether the transfers were related. On the second matchday in the second half of the season, Bunjaku made his debut at the Pegnitz when he came on in the 77th minute in the 3-0 home win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern and seconds later, Marek Mintál was involved in the 3-0 win. Three weeks later he played for the full time in his second assignment, as he was replacing Christian Eigler , who was suspended from yellow . On March 9, he came in the away game at MSV Duisburg for his third assignment. He was substituted on in the 84th minute and scored his first goal for Nuremberg in the 89th. Bunjaku was struggling with injuries so he never really got into shape. Since Dario Vidosic was ultimately preferred to him as a substitute striker, he only made seven appearances by the end of the season, with six coming on in the second half.

On August 15, the second game day of the 2009/10 season , Bunjaku made his Bundesliga debut. He scored a goal against Eintracht Frankfurt , which led to the first point of the season. In the next few weeks he quickly developed into a regular player. On October 18, the ninth matchday, Bunjaku scored his first brace for Nuremberg in a 3-0 win against Hertha BSC . The kicker then voted him Man of the Day. On January 30, 2010 he scored three goals in a game for the first time in the away game at Hannover 96 . After Stéphane Chapuisat, he is the second Swiss to have achieved a three-pack in the Bundesliga. The kicker voted him man of the day again. Overall, with twelve goals in 28 season games plus two relegation games, he was by far the most successful striker in Franconia. In the second relegation game, he made his first assist in the club jersey.

In the new season, Bunjaku was found to have severe cartilage damage after the third game. The necessary operation and rehabilitation cost him almost the entire playing time. It wasn't until the end of April 2011 that he was able to play for the second team for the first time, but his comeback ended with a dismissal shortly before half-time. In the Bundesliga he was no longer used until the end of the season. On March 4, 2012 he was substituted on six minutes before the end of the game in the Bundesliga match against Mönchengladbach and scored the winning goal to 1-0 3 minutes later, which brought him a hopeful return to the Bundesliga after a long period of suffering.

For the 2012/13 season, Bunjaku moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern on a free transfer . He received a three-year contract there and was appointed team captain. His start was very promising. He scored four goals in the first four second division games and also scored once for the Palatinate team in the first round of the DFB Cup. With Mohamadou Idrissou he formed a dangerous striker duo with the “Red Devils” and ultimately scored 13 goals in the league. With his team he reached third place in the table at the end of the season. Thus, there were two relegation games against the sixteenth table of the Bundesliga , TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , which were lost, however, whereby the FCK remained in the second division. After persistent complaints in his right knee, Bunjaku underwent an operation after the end of the season in July, which resulted in a compulsory break of six months. He made his comeback in the second division on February 23, 2014.

Between June 2014 and January 2017, Bunjaku was under contract with FC St. Gallen . He then played for FC Erzgebirge Aue in the second Bundesliga. With the violets , Bunjaku had a contract until June 2019. After this was terminated by mutual agreement in August 2018, Bunjaku joined FC Viktoria Köln in the Regionalliga West in September 2018 . With Viktoria Köln, Bunjaku became champions of the regional league and rose to the third division. Bunjaku was Viktoria's top scorer with eleven goals. In the 3rd league season 2019/20 , Bunjaku then scored 20 goals and finished second on the top scorer list. After the season, Bunjaku extended his expiring contract with Viktoria for one year.

National team

On November 6, 2009, Bunjaku was appointed to the Swiss senior national team for the first time by Ottmar Hitzfeld and made his international debut on November 14, 2009 in the 1-0 defeat against Norway . For the 2010 World Cup in South Africa , he was nominated for the Swiss team to replace the injured Marco Streller . He has not been called up since his injury in 2010. On March 5, 2014, he made his debut in the first international match against Haiti for Kosovo. The game was unofficial but was approved by FIFA . In the first official international match on June 3, 2016, after the Kosovar national team was admitted to UEFA as the 55th member on May 3, 2016 and the 210th member of FIFA on May 13, 2016, he scored the 2-0 Victory against the Faroese national team also scored the first goal with the goal in the 44th minute. He was the record scorer in Kosovo with three goals in four games.
