Alex Gonzalez

Alex Gonzalez (actually: Alexandre Gonzalez ; born March 16, 1951 in Decazeville ) is a former French middle and long distance runner .

At the World Cross Country Championships in 1976 in Chepstow, he finished 57th and won bronze with the French team. In 1978 he came 32nd at the World Cross Country Championship in Glasgow and won gold with the team. In 1980 he reached the semi-finals at the Olympic Games in Moscow over 1500 m .

At the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1981 in Grenoble, he won over 3000 m . As the race ended one lap too early by mistake, the actual distance was 2860 m. At the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1982 and at the Olympic Games in 1984 , he was eliminated over 1500 m in the preliminary run.

In 1985 he was sixth in the European Cup marathon . The following year he was third in the Paris Marathon and eleventh in the EM marathon in Stuttgart , and in 1987 he came 31st in the IAAF World Cup marathon . In 1988 he finished fifth in the European Cup marathon and finished 37th in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Seoul . In 1989 he finished 22nd in the IAAF World Cup marathon.

He was three times French champion over 1500 m (1979, 1981, 1982) and once in cross country (1981). In 1977 and 1981 he won the national title over 3000 m indoors.
