Alexandria ( Romania and the capital of Teleorman County . It is located south of Bucharest near the border with Bulgaria . The city is located on the right bank of the Vedea River , about 35 kilometers (as the crow flies) north of the Danube .

The place was founded at the beginning of the 19th century by residents from Mavrodin and Zimnicea . In 1834, designed according to plans by Moritz von Ott (also incorrectly named Otto von Moritz) - who also planned the cities of Brăila and Giurgiu as well as in Turnu Severin with Xavier Villacrosse - the place was named after the gospodar Alexandru Ghica , who issued the charter in 1834 . Ghica's remains are kept in a sarcophagus in Sfântul Alexandru Cathedral . In 1968, after the re-establishment of today's Teleorman district, Alexandria became its capital and in 1979 it became a municipality .
In 1900 the city had 13,675 inhabitants.
Economic policy
The most important branch of the city is agriculture, it is considered a regional center. There are several mills and other food processing facilities. There are also companies involved in the production of building materials, chemicals and rubber processing.

Attractions
- The episcopal cathedral Sfântul Alexandru was built from 1869 to 1898.
- The Museum of History was opened in 1952 and in 1997 it was converted into a three-story building with an exhibition area of 2000 m².

Alexandria has had a twinning relationship with the city of Morlaix in France since 2007.
